I am Clinical Lead for Paediatric Otolaryngology (ENT) at St Bart’s & Royal London hospitals. I am Visiting Professor of ENT (Otolaryngology) at Canterbury Christ Church University, Kent. I was appointed as ENT Consultant at Barts & London hospitals in 2011. In my NHS job, I provide tertiary level services in all aspects of paediatric otolaryngology for the population of East London in a multidisciplinary setting. As part of my role as Professor of ENT, I teach on Paediatric ENT module of MCh (ENT) course. I was awarded Clinical Excellence Award by Barts Health NHS trust in 2013.
I have also been awarded doctorate (MD in Clinical Research) from University College London in 2007, for my dedicated research on the genetics of deafness for 2 years at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
I have been awarded Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (FRCS (ORL HNS) in ENT & Head Neck Surgery in 2009 at the end of my higher surgical training. I was also awarded Membership of Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (MRCS) in Surgery in 2003 and Diploma in ENT (DLO RCS) from Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2002. I have undergone six years of excellent higher surgical training in Yorkshire. I have had 3 years of training at Great Ormond Street hospital (12 months as clinical fellows in paediatric otolaryngology and 24 months as clinical and research fellow).
I was awarded Master of Surgery (MS (ENT)) degree in ENT from University of Delhi in 1997 at the end of my ENT training in Delhi and approval of my thesis on Tympanoplasty in children. I was also awarded Diplomate of National Board of Examination (DNB (ENT)) degree in ENT in 1997. I graduated (MBBS) from University of Delhi in 1994.
In my general paediatric and adult clinical practice I perform throat (Tonsils/Adenoids), head neck procedures, otology (Ear) and rhinology (Nose & Sinus) procedures. In my specialist paediatric practice I perform airway endoscopies, laryngotracheal reconstructions and major ear and neck operations, in addition to general paediatric ENT procedures.
I have extensive and broad experience in all aspects of Ear Nose Throat speciality. I have updated my personal practices and knowledge by reflective practice and self-directed learning, as well as attending conferences, courses and meetings.
I have completed research projects on laryngotracheal reconstruction, surgical management of lymphatic malformation, endoscopic posterior laryngeal grafts, airway management in Pierre Robin patients, cochlear implantation in syndromic children, branchial anomalies in children, surgical results of first arch anomalies, surgical site infections, and propranolol for subglottic haemangioma. I have presented these projects nationally and internationally and have published these in international journals. Overall I have published 70 articles on ENT related topics, and have presented more than 100 papers at national and international conferences
As Consultant at Bart’s & London Hospitals and as Professor in ENT, I provide clinical and surgical training to higher surgical trainees in all aspects of specialist Paediatric and general adult ENT (Otolaryngology).
